Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors are in action on Tuesday night against his former team, the Miami Heat. The Warriors entered this matchup with a lot of momentum on their side as they sought their fourth straight win.

Unfortunately for Golden State, they lost Butler in the second half of the game to a troubling injury. The six-time All-Star forward fell to the ground with 7:41 left in the third quarter. He hurt his knee as he pivoted toward the basket. Butler immediately grabbed his right knee as he screamed in pain on the floor.

The Warriors’ medical team immediately attended to the 36-year-old. Butler was eventually helped to the locker room by his teammates, but he could not put any weight on his knee as he exited the playing court.

Not long after Butler’s exit, the Warriors announced that the five-time All-NBA forward has been ruled out for the remainder of the game. The initial diagnosis is a right knee injury.

“Jimmy Butler III (right knee) will not return to tonight’s game,” Warriors PR announced on X.

Butler, who missed Golden State’s last game due to personal reasons, finished with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, three rebounds, four assists and two steals in 21 minutes of action.

The Warriors have not released the full details of Butler’s injury, but more information should be available soon. Butler will now undergo tests to determine the severity of his knee injury. As reported by Anthony Slater of ESPN, Butler tore the meniscus in this same knee in 2018, followed by an MCL sprain in 2024.

The Warriors play again on Tuesday. They host the Toronto Raptors at Chase Center on the second night of a back-to-back set.
