The last time Jimmy Butler saw action for the Golden State Warriors was on Jan. 19. The Warriors blew out Butler’s former team, the Miami Heat, 135-112.
Butler, however, exited that game in the third quarter after tweaking his knee. The six-time All-Star was clearly in a lot of pain as he was helped off the court and to the locker room. The Warriors later announced that Butler tore the ACL in his right knee. It was a season-ending injury for the 36-year-old veteran.
Butler’s first full season with the Warriors ended after 38 games played. He averaged 20.0 points on 51.9% shooting, 5.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.4 steals in 31.1 minutes per contest.

On Monday, the Warriors shared an important update on Butler’s road to recovery. The team took to social media to announce that the five-time All-NBA forward had undergone successful surgery.
“Warriors forward Jimmy Butler III, who suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on January 19 against the Miami Heat, underwent successful surgery earlier today in Los Angeles,” the team posted on X.
The press release also indicates that Butler will begin rehab immediately. The Warriors star is expected to make a full recovery.
The team, however, has not provided a firm timetable for Butler’s return. The statement said that “an update on his progress will be provided early next season.” At this point, there is no guarantee that Butler will be able to return in 2026-27.
The Warriors have struggled without Butler. He’s missed the last nine games, and Golden State gone 3-6 during that stretch.
The Warriors are currently 28-25 and eighth in the Western Conference. They are in action on Monday at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.
