The Toronto Blue Jays are beginning to look like themselves again. Toronto rallied past the Boston Red Sox 6-4 on Wednesday, scoring five runs in the eighth inning to take its third straight win. The victory also moved the Blue Jays to 59-63 and kept their late-season playoff push alive.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. played a key part in the comeback. He went 2-for-5 with a run scored, then came around to score the go-ahead run in the eighth after Kazuma Okamoto singled him home. Guerrero’s headfirst slide put Toronto ahead 2-1 before the Blue Jays broke the game open later in the inning.

The Blue Jays’ official Instagram account captured the moment and celebrated the winning streak with a highlight reel of the first baseman sliding across home plate.
The club captioned the post “Three in a row mood” and “PLAYING WITH PASSION,” with Guerrero resharing the post on his Instagram Stories.
The Blue Jays have now won 10 of their last 14 games after spending much of the season struggling to find consistency. They sit fourth in the AL East at 59-63 and remain within striking distance of the final American League wild card spot. Detroit currently holds that position, with Toronto 1.5 games back in the Wild Card standings.
There is still plenty of work ahead, though. Toronto has 40 games remaining, but the recent surge has put the postseason back within reach. The Blue Jays will try to complete a four-game sweep of Boston on Thursday, with Max Scherzer scheduled to face Payton Tolle, before the New York Yankees arrive at Rogers Centre for a weekend series.
