Sam Darnold is injured.
The Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback has left Wednesday night’s season-opening game against the New England Patriots with a leg injury. Darnold, who helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl win over the Patriots last year, has been replaced by backup quarterback Drew Lock with less than 8:00 to play in the first quarter.
Video has emerged of Darnold, who joined the Seahawks after a big year with the Vikings, limping poorly after he left the blue medical tent.
“Yikes: Seahawks QB Sam Darnold is limping and grimacing walking out of the blue medical tent,” Jori Epstein of Yahoo! Sports shared.
NFL fans react to Darnold’s injury
“QB Sam Darnold, who went into the tent with an foot/ankle injury, has been replaced by Drew Lock. Concerning,” Ian Rapoport shared.
“My minimum 4 pro bowl career prediction for drew lock prediction from 2019 just got new life,” PFT Commenter added.
“The NBC broadcast have been very nonchalant about the Sam Darnold injury, no?” Ben Axelrod added.
“With Sam Darnold Hobbling To The Locker Room, Drew Lock Is Now In The Game. Yikes,” one fan added.
“The 2026 season has already been altered depending how bad Sam Darnold is hurt,” one fan added.
It looks bad, but hopefully, it won’t be anything too serious for Darnold. Losing him would be a massive blow to the Seahawks’ chances of repeating. It’s early, of course, but this is a very tough way to start the year.
