Duke, the No. 1 overall seed in the 2026 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, is in trouble against No. 16 seed Siena.
Siena, which is coached by legendary Syracuse Orange men's basketball star Gerry McNamara, is taking it to the Jon Scheyer-led Blue Devils in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
With less than 8:00 to play in the first half, it's Siena 31, Duke 22. Siena, which went 23-11 in the regular season, came into the game as a 28.5-point underdog. But they have very much looked the part of an NCAA Tournament Cinderella thus far on Thursday afternoon. Siena is shooting 57 from the field as a team and has already forced four Duke turnovers.
It's early, but this is very much an "UPSET ALERT" game. Get to your TVs, folks.
College basketball fans are already drooling over the possibility of the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament going out in the first round.
"Keep it up, Siena," one fan wrote.
"I PRAY DUKE LOSES TO A 16 SEED SIENA," one fan added.
"We yes WE ALL OF US want duke to lose round 1 to siena," one fan added.
"Siena is doing something beautiful right now," one fan added.
How many No. 1 seeds have lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament?
Only two teams in the history of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament have lost as a No. 1 seed to a No. 16 seed.
The two major upsets:
- UMBC over Virginia (2018)
- Fairleigh Dickinson over Purdue (2023)
That's only two out of more than 160 matchups between No. 1 seeds and No. 16 seeds since 1985, but it's possible.
Will we get another one on Thursday?
