Raphinha’s World Cup situation has taken an unexpected turn, with reports suggesting the Brazil national team forward is considering leaving the tournament and the United States after his injury setback. The 29-year-old was forced off during Brazil’s 3-0 win over the Haiti national team after feeling discomfort in his right thigh, and tests later confirmed a hamstring injury. Brazil have not ruled him out of the World Cup and the plan is still for him to stay with the squad while going through treatment.
But the latest report has added a new layer of uncertainty around his future at the tournament. For a Brazil side already managing fitness concerns, the possibility of Raphinha stepping away would be a significant blow, especially with the knockout rounds approaching.
Goal side on X confirmed the new saying, “JUST IN: Raphinha could 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃 𝐂𝐔𝐏 to deal with personal issues and an alleged 'financial crisis'.”
Raphinha’s injury has created a problem Brazil did not need, both on the pitch and away from it.
From a squad perspective, the immediate issue is clear. Brazil are not expecting him back right away, which means Carlo Ancelotti has to plan without one of his main wide options for at least the next part of the tournament. The hope is that this is still only a temporary setback rather than the end of his World Cup, but hamstring injuries are tricky and Brazil will not want to rush him back too soon.
That makes the timing especially frustrating. Brazil already entered the tournament without a few important names and Ancelotti has had to keep adjusting his attack. Neymar being close to a return is a boost, but it does not completely cover the loss of Raphinha’s directness, work rate and ability to stretch games from the right side.

The situation has also become louder because of what is being said away from the field. Comments from former Brazilian national team player and World Cup winner, Vampeta about Raphinha’s personal life and a possible Saudi move have brought an unwanted distraction into the middle of Brazil’s World Cup campaign. Raphinha’s family clearly did not appreciate it, with his cousin strongly denying the claims online.
So Brazil are now dealing with two questions at once: when can Raphinha realistically play again and how much noise will surround him before that happens? For a team chasing a sixth World Cup, it is exactly the kind of distraction they would rather avoid.
