Dan Hurley just announced some major UConn Huskies injury news before the national title game on Monday night.
UConn, the No. 2 seed out of the East Region, will be taking on No. 1 seed Michigan in the national title game on Monday evening. But the Huskies could be playing shorthanded. Hurley just announced that one of UConn's best players is in a walking boot.
Hurley announced that UConn's Solo Ball is in a walking boot and he will not practice on Sunday. The game is less than 48 hours away at this point. Hurley announced that Ball has "some kind of foot sprain" and will not practice today.
ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on the major injury news.
"He's in a boot. Will be something to monitor for tomorrow night," he added.
It's a huge blow to UConn.
"Solo Ball in boot before championship game is bad timing. Sprained foot before finals is never ideal. UConn’s deep but losing him matters. Tomorrow night’s test for the backup," one fan wrote.
Ball has been one of UConn's best players
Ball, a 6-foot-4 junior guard, had 13 points and two assists in the win over Illinois on Saturday evening. He had 10 points and two assists in the Elite Eight win over Duke, while scoring 12 points and dishing out 1 assist in the Sweet 16 victory against Michigan State.
If Ball is unable to play on Monday night, it would be a significant loss for UConn's team. It would be a huge blow to their guard depth. It would put a lot more pressure on freshman guard Braylon Mullins, who has been able to do a lot of his scoring off of the ball.
Tipoff between UConn and Michigan is set for Monday night at 8:50 p.m. E.T.
We'll know more on Ball's status then.
