The United States women's hockey team is finally addressing all the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump and the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.

After the U.S. men's hockey team defeated Canada 2-1 in an overtime thriller, Trump called the players and congratulated them in the locker room. As he was inviting them to the White House, he decided to take a shot at the women's hockey team, which also won gold at this year's Winter Olympics.

“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” the president told the men’s hockey team. “I do believe I probably would be impeached.”

U.S. women's hockey star Hilary Knight appeared on "Good Morning America" to discuss her team's gold medal victory as well as Trump's controversial comments.

Knight referred to Trump's conversation with the U.S. men's team as "distasteful." Frankly, it's hard to disagree with her.

"I thought the call in itself was distasteful and an awesome learning moment to refocus the narrative and understand our words matter, and how we speak about women matters, and we need to celebrate this team," Knight said, via ABC News.

Will the U.S. women's team visit the White House?

Earlier this week, the U.S. women's declined Trump's invitation to attend his State of the Union address.

“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,” the U.S. women’s team said in a statement. “Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate. They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”

Trump, however, said the women's team is on track to visit the White House in the near future.

“They beat a fantastic Canadian team in overtime as everybody saw, as did the American women who will soon be coming to the White House,” said Trump.

An official visit hasn't been announced yet, but maybe that'll happen before the end of this week.
