Team USA Olympic hockey hero Hilary Knight is the latest person to be asked about the "controversy" of the women's ice hockey team declining President Donald Trump's invitation to the White House after their return from Italy.
Appearing on SportsCenter, Knight made it clear that there's no enmity between the women's team and the men's team. She said that the women treat the men with a "genuine level of support and respect" while lamenting that their respect if being overshadowed by "a quick lapse."
"Our achievements shouldn't be overshadowed by anything else other than how great they are," Knight said.
All about the sport
Sports fans are definitely getting annoyed by the ongoing implications that there's beef between the two Olympic hockey teams purely because of reported political differences. More importantly, it doesn't even seem to reflect the reality at all:
"I just went to Minnesota Frost practice and talked to four of the gold medalists (Heise, Pannek, Curl, Zumwinkle) and all of them echoed this. Heise said they’ve received public and private apologies too from men’s players," The Athletic's Michael Russo noted in a repost.

"I watched every minute I could of both teams. I think the only reason there is more excitement for the men’s team is because the women’s team along with Canada have dominated for years. Both teams were incredible," wrote another.
"Hearing that kind of mutual respect between the teams is so good for real their achievements definitely deserve all the spotlight," a third wrote.
You can't please everybody.
