Breezy Johnson reached the pinnacle of her sports career when she captured the gold medal in the downhill skiing event at the Winter Olympics in Milan. She won a trophy — and then a ring, followed not long after, when her boyfriend, Connor Watkins, proposed to her in front of an excited crowd.
It was a romantic moment for the couple, but some people felt he made it about himself when she should still have been celebrating her milestone.
The Today Show posted a video of the proposal, but some of the top comments weren’t impressed by the romantic gesture.
"Taking away her thunder!" said one user.
"Man: How can I make her moment about me?" wrote another.
The internet can be brutal, but only Johnson and Watkins know the full story. The 30-year-old Olympian first took to Instagram to express her happiness about her two milestones. She said the moment was “everything I dreamed of.”

She sat down with Kylie Kelce on the Not Gonna Lie podcast this week and clarified that no thunder was stolen.
“Getting engaged at the Olympics does not steal your spotlight, it just makes it that much cooler,” she said.
“I just thought it would be really fun to bring the two loves of my life together. I had talked to him about it. A lot of people were like ‘He’s stealing your spotlight.’ I was like ‘You clearly didn’t pay attention. I won the downhill three days ago.’”
While some people remain critical of the moment, others can’t help but swoon — especially over the Taylor Swift reference. Watkins wrote, “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy,” on the ring box he used to propose.
Swift took notice and commented, referencing another one of her hit songs.
