If there's one thing people like to complain about when it comes to the College Football Playoff national title game, it's the start time and the date

The College Football Playoff national title game is typically held on a Monday evening in late January. The game will often start after 8 p.m. and end after 11 p.m. E.T. That's a late night for most, especially on a school and work night in January.

Fans always take to social media in the days and weeks leading up to the game, urging college football and the broadcasting networks to do something about it. Why not have the game on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon? Why not have everything start earlier and end it all on New Year's Day? Why can't we just start it earlier?

A bill proposed by the U.S. Senate would change the start time and date of the College Football Playoff national title game, making everything end earlier.

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports had the details.

"This provision requires the football national championship game to be played no later than Jan. 8 'to the extent practicable.' It also protects the window in which Army-Navy plays," he shared.

College football fans are on board with that

"Yes, please! The calendar and start time needs to change," one fan wrote.

"1) this might be the best idea in the whole bill 2) it’s never going to happen 3) the federal government weighing in on the date of the CFP championship game is hilarious," one fan added.

"Idea is good. But can someone explain to me why it’s the federal government’s job (or within their power) to force a football game to be played by a certain day?" one fan added.

"I mean this would be great and we could actually see which teams are the best at sustaining performance over 16 weeks. I don’t think 20+ day layoffs between rounds helps the quality of the games. Some big changes would have to be made though," one fan added.

Something needs to change, that's clear.
