Ben Shelton might be America’s best chance at a men’s Grand Slam win. The American men have not won a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick took home the U.S. Open title back in 2003. Shelton is the No. 8 seed in this year’s U.S. Open.
The former University of Florida Gators men’s tennis star is into the third round at the U.S. Open. He’s quite excited about it, too.
Shelton was seen screaming immediately after clinching his match win in the second round on Wednesday afternoon.
The U.S. Open posted a video of his celebration.
U.S. Open fans, though, believe that Shelton is acting too arrogantly and with an “annoying behavior.”
Is his celebration too much? It’s just the second round, after all.
U.S. Open fans criticize Shelton’s behavior
“Props for gathering together to give a respectful handshake But this celebration is INSANE for the 2nd round,” one fan wrote.
“Federer used to just Nod his head after beating Prime Djokovic….Now this generation got Top 5 players doing scream gimmick for second round win…,” another fan added.
“This is round 2 brother. Why is he celebrating like he just won a gs,” one fan added.
“So annoying,” one fan added.
Other fans, meanwhile, like the confidence.
“I see Ben Shelton as the top favorite for this US Open. He’s coming off a great hard court swing, he looks full of confidence, and on top of that, in this Grand Slam he always rises to the occasion. He’s going to be a very tough opponent to beat,” another fan added.
“It’s his home slam and he’s playing well. Let him have his celebration,” one fan added.
