The U.S. has issued a "warning" after James Van Der Beek's death at 48 years old on Wednesday.

Van Der Beek, known for star roles in movies like "Varsity Blues" and shows like "Dawson's Creek," passed away following a battle with colorectal cancer. His wife, Kimberly, shared the devastating news.

“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” she wrote.

“He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”

In the wake of Van Der Beek's death, the U.S. is issuing a "warning" to all: colorectal cancer is on the rise.

The symptoms to watch out for:

  • A change in bowel habits, such as more frequent diarrhea or constipation.
  • Rectal bleeding or blood in the stool.
  • Ongoing discomfort in the belly area, such as cramps, gas or pain.
  • A feeling that the bowel doesn't empty all the way during a bowel movement.
  • Weakness or tiredness.
  • Losing weight without trying.

"Many people with colon cancer don't have symptoms at first. When symptoms appear, they'll likely depend on the cancer's size and where it is in the large intestine," the U.S. warned, via the Mayo Clinic.

"If you notice lasting symptoms that worry you, make an appointment with a health care professional."

Stay safe, everyone.
