The Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries' showdown at Chase Center on Friday was one to watch. After all, the Lynx have one of the most exciting rookies this season in Olivia Miles and currently lead the league even without Napheesa Collier, while the Valkyries continue to be a playoff contender in just their second year after debuting in 2025.
As if fans needed more reason to watch the showdown, U.S. figure skater and Winter Olympics icon Alysa Liu made an appearance at the game and drew plenty of attention.
Liu won two gold medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics, including the the USA's first Olympic gold in individual figure skating since Sarah Hughes in 2002. Naturally, she has since surged to a new level of popularity.

Liu's appearance had fans buzzing with excitement, especially after the WNBA shared a video of her supporting the Valkyries. The 20-year-old Olympian hails from Oakland, California, so it's not surprising to see her cheer on the hometown team.
"OAKLAND IN THE HOUSE," the WNBA wrote in the caption of its post. "2x Olympic Gold Medalist Alysa Liu is at home base to support the @valkyries!"
"She is an absolute queen! Love her!" a commenter wrote. Another one said, "Looking great!"
"I love it, one of the most famous people on earth and she’s giddy and surprised to be on the Jumbotron," a viewer noticed.
A fan added, "Bay area baddie."
"An icon," a supporter shared.
A sixth poster stated, "Queen of the universe."
For what it's worth, while Liu came to support the Valkyries, the Lynx also shared a moment with her. Minnesota posted on social media to show that Miles and forward Nia Coffey took a photo with Liu before the game.
Unfortunately for Liu, the Valkyries lost to the Lynx, 81-75, dropping to 10-6 on the season.
