U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu reached a higher level of popularity during the 2026 Winter Olympics, which isn't surprising considering what she achieved during the Games.
Liu won two gold medals and even ended a 24-year wait for the Americans. After leading Team USA to a first-place finish in the team event, Liu went on to top the individual free skate event.
The 20-year-old Liu became the first female American to win an Olympic gold in singles figure skating since 2002. The last one to do it was U.S. figure skating icon Sarah Hughes.
As a result, Liu saw a massive increase in her following on social media. On Feb. 3, days before the Winter Olympics started, she had around 332,000 followers on Instagram. At the time of writing, Liu has over 7 millions followers on the platform.

However, her rise to stardom came with unfortunate drawbacks. According to Liu, it has led to a number of fake social media accounts impersonating her and scamming people. With that said, she shared that she only has two official accounts: one on Instagram and and another one on TikTok.
"This is my only instagram account," Liu clarified on her Instagram Stories. "Heard there were some accounts pretending to be me, hope yall aren't falling for em lol don't get scammed & the only other social media account I got is my one tiktok acc."
It should be easy to identify Liu's social media accounts based on her followers. Her TikTok account, at the time of writing, has over 2.9 million followers. A TikTok account that pretends to be her only has over 233,000 followers.
Unfortunately for Liu, the number of fake accounts impersonating her should only increase as she continues to compete at the highest level in figure skating and achieve even more success.
Liu is set to compete in the World Figure Skating Championships from March 24 to 29. She also said recently that she plans to return to the 2030 Winter Olympics.
