A U.S. Congressman's wife has tragically died in a "horrific" car accident on Sunday morning.
The Office of U.S. Rep. Jim Baird, R-Ind. District 4 announced on social media that his wife, Danise, has been killed in a tragic car accident. She was injured in a car accident in late January and died on Sunday.
The office announced the official news.
"The Office of Congressman Jim Baird is saddened to announce the passing of his beloved wife, Danise, following complications from injuries sustained in a car accident earlier this year. Congressman Baird and Danise were married for 59 years, building a life centered on faith, family, and service. A devoted wife and loving mother of three, she was the foundation of their family and will be deeply missed. We ask that you keep the Congressman and his family in your prayers during this difficult time," they announced.
The accident was reportedly a hit-and-run.
"Following the crash. Baird himself spent less than 24 hours in the hospital, while Danise had to spend additional time recovering," CBS 4 reports.
"Beau Baird, the son of Baird, confirmed that the crash occurred while Baird was driving back to Washington, D.C.
"He said at the time that, because the crash was a hit-and-run, law enforcement was actively investigating and searching for the vehicle that struck them."
An investigation into the accident is underway.
May she rest in peace.
