The Denver Broncos defeated the Seattle Seahawks 17–14 in overtime on Thursday night, but the victory came with a setback in the backfield. Third-string running back Tyler Badie suffered a thumb injury while converting a fourth down on Denver’s opening scoring drive. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game after recording one carry for six yards.
With no confirmed return timeline, Badie’s status remains questionable for Denver’s Week 7 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The Broncos also have rookie running back Jonah Coleman eligible to return from injured reserve next week, potentially affecting the team’s backfield rotation. J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey handled the backfield work after Badie’s exit.
Both Dobbins and Harvey scored rushing touchdowns in the first half, helping Denver build a 14–3 lead. Dobbins finished with 41 yards on 17 carries, while Harvey added 25 yards on six attempts. Harvey also took on more of the passing-down work after Badie went down, giving the Broncos another option on third downs.
Additionally, cornerback Patrick Surtain II and safety Talanoa Hufanga were inactive because of ankle injuries. Defensive linemen Jordan Jackson and Tyler Onyedim, quarterback Sam Ehlinger, offensive tackle Kage Casey and tight end Dallen Bentley were also inactive. However, CB Riley Moss returned to the lineup after missing Week 5, giving the Broncos needed support in the secondary despite the absences.
Broncos Survive Seahawks Rally to Win 17–14 in Overtime
The Broncos appeared to be in control after taking a 14–3 lead, but Seattle rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The decisive moment came when cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian intercepted Sam Darnold in overtime, setting up Wil Lutz for a 53-yard game-winning field goal. Denver finished with five sacks and two interceptions, improving to 4–2.
Bo Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for just 107 yards without a touchdown. Denver managed only 168 total yards and failed to score after halftime. Undoubtedly, the offense struggled to sustain drives once Seattle adjusted. While the win was valuable, Denver cannot expect its defense to carry the entire load every week.
The Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 278 yards on 27-of-51 passing but finished with two interceptions and no touchdown passes. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 12 passes for 134 yards, helping Seattle erase the deficit and force overtime. However, McMillian’s interception ended the comeback. Seattle fell to 3–3, while Denver secured a hard-fought home victory despite its offensive struggles.
