Two people are dead and one other was injured in a "horrific" accident near the 2026 Winter Olympics on Sunday.
Two skiers were killed and a third was injured. The accident happened on Sunday, Feb. 15, in Courmayeur, which is about two hours away from the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy.
"At least three skiers were caught up in Sunday morning’s avalanche in the Couloir Vesses, a well-known freeride route in Courmayeur, in the upper Val Veny, according to Italy’s Alpine Rescue," the AP reported.
"One of the victims was taken to a hospital in serious condition but later died, the agency said. Fifteen rescuers, three canine units and two helicopters took part in the search and rescue efforts."
Avalanches and skiing accidents have been troublingly common in Italy as of late.
There have been 13 people killed in tragic accidents in Italy involving accidents and other snow-filled disasters in the past week.
