Triple H has joined the wrestling world in mourning Rick Achberger, the longtime WWE superfan better known as “Sign Guy,” who died Sunday at 54.
WWE’s Chief Content Officer posted a tribute to Achberger on Instagram Sunday night, remembering a fan who became one of the most recognizable faces in the crowd during WWE’s Ruthless Aggression era.
“Saddened to hear of the death of Rick Achberger, known to the WWE Universe as ‘Sign Guy,’” Triple H wrote. “For decades, Rick was a fixture at events holding a sign that expressed exactly how he felt about you that given evening.”
Triple H added that Achberger “will be missed by the entire WWE family” and sent condolences to his family and friends.

Triple H Shares Classic Photos of WWE’s ‘Sign Guy’
Fittingly, Triple H included two photos that captured exactly what made Sign Guy such a memorable part of WWE television. One showed the two together during Triple H’s run as WWE Champion. The other showed Achberger holding one of his more elaborate creations: a toilet seat with Triple H’s picture and the message “HHH IS CRAP.”
Achberger’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes Sunday from wrestlers and fans who remembered seeing him seated ringside at WWE events for years.
For fans of my generation, especially those who grew up watching WWE during the Ruthless Aggression era, Sign Guy felt like part of the show. I remember seeing him on television constantly as a kid, usually wearing his familiar red cap and blue work shirt with another sign ready to go.
Triple H’s tribute is particularly fitting. Achberger made a name for himself telling WWE Superstars exactly what he thought of them, and more than two decades later, one of his most frequent targets is helping WWE say goodbye.
