Trinity Rodman, a World Cup champion and the girlfriend of American tennis star Ben Shelton, might not be able to watch the US Open final this Sunday.
Shelton picked up the biggest win of his career Tuesday night, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (10-7). The hard-hitting lefty dethroned the reigning US Open champion with a sensational serve out wide on match point.
“It’s incredible,” Shelton said. “I always say that this is the greatest sports city in the world, I say that this is the greatest stadium in the world. I’m just hoping that my best friend and my sister over there don’t have to be at work at 6 a.m. in three hours.”

Shelton’s win has secured him a date with fellow American tennis star Frances Tiafoe, who erased a two-set deficit on Tuesday to defeat Alex Michelsen in arguably the most emotional match of the tournament.
For what it’s worth, Shelton and Tiafoe have already met twice at the US Open. After winning the initial meeting in 2023, Shelton fell short to Tiafoe in five sets in 2024.
While Shelton has enjoyed having Rodman in his corner throughout the US Open, there’s a very good chance she’ll miss the final.
Their careers could clash Sunday.
Rodman, the face of the Washington Spirit, has a soccer match against the Boston Legacy scheduled for this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
Although the matchup hasn’t been determined, the US Open men’s singles final will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
Of course, Shelton isn’t a lock to make the US Open final. Tiafoe has proven to be a formidable opponent at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
If Shelton does book a spot in Sunday’s final, he’ll have to compete without Rodman in his corner.
