The chances of Kewan Lacy playing in Ole Miss’ road matchup against Florida have taken a hit, potentially leaving quarterback Trinidad Chambliss without the Rebels’ top running back.
Lacy was downgraded from questionable to doubtful on Friday’s SEC availability report as he continues recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered during Ole Miss’ Week 3 victory over LSU.
Shortly after the SEC report, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Lacy was trending toward being a game-time decision. That said, moving from questionable to doubtful isn’t a promising sign for the running back heading into Saturday’s matchup.
Ole Miss coach Pete Golding confirmed on Monday that the star rusher would avoid surgery, but Lacy has remained limited during practice throughout the week.
“Got an MRI yesterday, so it wasn’t nearly as bad as we thought it was,” Golding said. “He’s going through the rehab process right now, and we’ll monitor the reps throughout the week. It will be a game-time decision.”
Friday’s downgrade, however, makes Lacy less likely to suit up and potentially puts responsibility on Chambliss after his standout performance against LSU.
Chambliss completed 33 of 48 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns in the 32-24 victory, adding another score on the ground. Meanwhile, Lacy managed 43 rushing yards and a touchdown before leaving with his injury.
After Lacy left the game, the Rebels barely ran the ball against LSU, with JT Lindsey recording four carries for 20 yards. Lindsey could receive a larger workload alongside Makhi Frazier if Lacy cannot play in Week 4.

Lacy has carried 39 times for 191 yards and four touchdowns through three games this season. He rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2025 after transferring from Missouri.
