The Toronto Blue Jays are optimistic about pitcher Trey Yesavage's recovery progress after he performed well in a minor league game. The pitcher has been out the starting rotation with a shoulder injury.
Before arriving to Spring Training, Yesavage had expressed some discomfort and pain on his right shoulder. Exams later revealed that he was suffering from an injury due to a right shoulder impingement.
The Blue Jays immediately moved Yesavage on the injured list, causing him to miss all the Spring Training games. The injury also ruled out any possibility of Yesavage being ready to go for the team by Opening Day.
Despite the setback caused by the injury, Yesavage has progressed rather well. Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reported on Thursday that Yesavage had a "very effective" showing in a minor-league game on Wednesday.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider also commented on how well Yesavage appeared during his performance on Wednesday. Schneider says his performance "was very encouraging in terms of stuff, velocity, recovery today, location (h/t Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet).
Yesavage is currently in Toronto for opening day and will continue to pitch in the minor leagues until his recovery is complete. The Blue Jays expect Yesavage to be back in the starting lineup by May.

During the 2025 season, the Blue Jays ended the regular season first in their division with a 94-68 record. The Blue Jays tied for best record in the American League alongside division rivals, the New York Yankees.
The Blue Jays would eliminate the Yankees 3-1 in the ALDS to move on to the ALCS. In a seven-game encounter, the Blue Jays managed to overcome the odds and eliminate the Seattle Mariners to reach the World Series. This would mark their first World Series appearance since winning the trophy in 1993.
The Blue Jays gave it their all against the defending champions taking the series all the way to Game 7 at home. Despite a strong start to the game and with two outs left to win the trophy, the Blue Jays fell short and lost the game in the 11th inning.
With the heartbreak of defeat still lingering, the Blue Jays will look to pull out all the stops in order to return to the World Series as soon as possible. Even without one of their star pitchers on the lineup for the start of the season, the Blue Jays will look to be contenders once again.
