Trey Yesavage’s second season with the Toronto Blue Jays did not go as planned. The 23-year-old entered this year with massive expectations given he was one of Toronto’s best arms during the 2025 MLB playoffs.
However, he battled multiple injury setbacks throughout the season including a right shoulder impingement and left knee surgery that caused multiple injured list stints.
When on the mound, Yesavage was effective but he did not have the command he was searching for. He finished with a 5-5 record, 3.67 ERA and 94 strikeouts across 95 2/3 innings of work.
He is still young and will be a frontline starter for this team for the foreseeable future, but he has work to do this offseason.

The Blue Jays were eliminated from postseason contention earlier this week and will play their final game of the regular season Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds.
Yesavage spoke with reporters after Saturday’s loss and made an announcement on his pitching plans for 2027 and what he will work on this offseason.
He revealed he will be adding a fourth pitch to his arsenal, though it is still unclear which one he will settle on. “Dabbling with a curveball and a two-seam, but we’ll see what works best,” Yesavage said, per Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
Yesavage currently relies on three pitches, his four-seam fastball, splitter and slider. He has thrown a curveball before as he referenced, but does not use it nearly enough to be effective.
Given his ongoing command issues with the pitches he already throws, developing a fourth offering will require a lot of work this offseason.
If Yesavage can add another weapon to his arsenal it could completely change his profile as a pitcher and give big-league hitters another problem to worry about heading into his third year in MLB.
