Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence joined Athlon Sports on Radio Row at the Super Bowl LX media center in San Francisco, Lawrence, whose Jaguars were an AFC wild card in 2025, but lost a first-round playoff game to the Buffalo Bills, was appearing on behalf of Zevo Insect Sprays and Traps.
Lawrence had an oustanding season, passing for 4,007 yards with 29 TD passes and 12 interceptions, adding another 359 yards rushing with nine touchdowns on the ground.
Andrew Perloff: I have a picture of the two us from 2019. If you know where this is, I will donate to the charity of your choice.
Trevor Lawrence: It was Atlanta. It was a high school. It was a seven-on-seven tournament. Me and some of my teammates came up.
AP: How do you remember? Is that some sort of quarterback memory thing?
TL: I just I remember that. I don't know how.
AP: A lot has happened since then. You're an MVP finalist. What changed for you this year?
TL: Our team really came together down the stretch. It's a new system. It takes some time sometimes to click as an offense honestly. So, I think the second half of the season that started to happen. We started to make a bunch of plays. We obviously came short. We got to go back and look at and figure out how do we take the next step and win these games in the playoffs.

AP: How intense is your head coach, Liam Cohen?
TL: Very intense. He’s passionate. He loves coaching. That's one thing I saw early on -- how much he cares about his job. He wants to make us better. Him being authentic and being himself .... guys gravitate towards that. He's like that in a Monday morning team meeting, not just on the field on Sunday.
AP: How often did he yell at you?
TL: (Laughs) We got into it plenty of times. I think that's a great thing about him. He’ not afraid to coach me or coach guys. He expects
a high standard. I think that is a reason why we improved so much as the season went on. Speaking of, he just walked in the building right there. (Lawrence waives to his coach.)
AP: Does he ever brag about playing quarterback at UMass?
TL: Oh yeah. He'll spin it around at practice. You can tell he's reminiscing in the glory days a little bit.
AP: As a former No. 1 overall draft pick, what advice do you have for likely 2026 No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza?
TL: There are going to be a lot of challenges. The first year is a big learning curve. The way he carries himself has been impressive. I don't know him personally. But just be yourself and keep going to work every day and improving. You look up at the end of the season, I think you're going to see you’ve taken a lot of steps. Wins, losses, who knows. That takes a lot. It’s a team game.
AP: Do you guys have like a club of No. 1 overall picks?
TL: I know some of the guys. I wouldn't say we have a club. In general, quarterbacks respect each other. You understand what guys go through because you went through it. Catching up with those guys is always fun.
AP: You weren’t just a No. 1 pick. You were a “generational” pick. The next one was Caleb Williams. Have you talked to him about the experience?
TL: I haven't really talked to him. Surprisingly we haven't crossed paths. I love his game. To see how he played this year was impressive. There’s a lot of pressure on quarterbacks. He’s handling it well.
AP: Give me your top three scariest pass-rushers.
TL: OK, I’m going to take Jaguars out of this list because I don’t play against them. Myles Garrett for sure. Maxx Crosby. Hmm, you got T.J. Watt, Nick Bosa. I’ll go Watt. And Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter belong up there, too, especially because I play them twice a year.
AP: Living in Florida, do you have to deal with alligators?
TL: Oh yeah, we got some gators.
AP: In the backyard?
TL: Yeah. We got a pond in our yard. There’s some little ones. They're not huge, but you don’t want to get too close.
AP: You have dogs?
TL: Two of them. But we have a fence. So hopefully they can't climb.
AP: There’s your coach again. Do you think he's going to yell something at you like get back to work, Trevor?
TL: Yeah, probably.
