Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent tight end Travis Kelceagreed to return for the 2026 season. While the NFL gets another year of panning its cameras to cameos from a certain pop star, will fantasy football managers receive another year of useful work from Mr. Taylor Swift?
In the last three seasons, Kelce, who turns 37 on Oct. 5, has managed to post top-five fantasy seasons in PPR scoring, including last year's TE3 result. On its face, that seems nothing short of impressive, but a closer look shows what has been a consistent decline in per-game efficacy. In traditional fantasy formats, weekly consistency is massive, especially at such a volatile position.
In 2025, despite being the third-best producer at the position, 34% of Kelce's year-long results came in just three games. That means he averaged only 9.0 PPR points in the 14 other games, which is borderline TE1 production most years that we usually reserve for those fringe matchup plays. The prior year, Kelce racked up an absurd 59% of his total fantasy gains in five games, leaving him to average a shade over 7.3 in PPR the rest of the year.
Travis Kelce's 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook
With all of that established, other areas of concern include offensive line issues and, most important of all, quarterback Patrick Mahomes' recovery from a late-season ACL tear. Even though he could be ready for Week 1, it's at least another potential worry for prospective Kelce drafters.
KC also should be a little stronger on the outside with the return of Rashee Rice and another year of growth expected out of Xavier Worthy.
In summary, Kelce's penchant for popping off with the occasional huge week is a nice card to hold, but that puts too much pressure on a lineup to be stronger than most across the board. A healthy 2026 campaign will have some usual Kelce-like highlights mixed in with plenty of duds, in what figures to be his fourth consecutive year of declining weekly averages. Savvy owners will let him be someone else's frustration at what is frequently the most volatile position in the fantasy lineup.
