The Kansas City Chiefs closed out their final full-team training camp practice Thursday in St. Joseph, Missouri, with the quarterback room drawing plenty of attention.
Patrick Mahomes’ health remains the central storyline of camp, and Justin Fields has spent the past several weeks working behind him, taking first-team reps whenever Mahomes has been limited.
Fields joined Kansas City this offseason after a 2025 season with the Bears in which he posted an 89.5 passer rating, 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception across nine games, and camp has given him a chance to get comfortable in Andy Reid’s offense while building relationships with his new teammates.

One of those relationships is with Travis Kelce, and the two appeared to be getting along well during a moment that had nothing to do with football.
On Friday, Kelce brought up a Blink-182 concert he had attended, only to learn that Fields had no idea who the band was. Fields, born in 1999, seemed to draw a blank on the group entirely.
“I don’t know what that is. That must be good back in the day,” the 27-year-old Fields said in a clip posted by the Chiefs.
Kelce, now 36, wasn’t going to let that slide.
“What? Back in the day? You were definitely alive, for sure. You can’t say back in the day like that,” Kelce replied.
Fields’ comment probably left Kelce feeling a little older than he probably wanted to that day, though the exchange fit the kind of camp environment Kansas City has been building around its quarterback competition.
Fields has continued to get meaningful reps as the Chiefs prepare for the preseason, giving the former first-round pick real opportunities to operate alongside players like Kelce ahead of a season where his role could grow depending on how Mahomes’ recovery progresses.
