Former Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has boldly criticized the club's transfer strategy and ambition following Thomas Frank's sacking.

The former Spurs boss went on to claim that Tottenham is "not a big club" while appearing on the Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast.

“They’ve built an unbelievable stadium, unbelievable training facilities, but when you look at the expenditure, particularly their wages structure, they’re not a big club,” Postecoglou stated. “I saw that because when we were trying to sign players, we weren’t in the market for those players."

"I think they didn't realise that, to actually win, you've got to take some risks," he said.

"When you walk into Tottenham, what you see everywhere is: ‘To Dare Is To Do’ and yet their actions are almost the antithesis of that. I think they didn’t realize that, to actually win, you’ve got to take some risks at some point. I felt like Tottenham as a club were saying: ‘We’re one of the big boys.’ And the reality is I don’t think they are."

Current and former Tottenham stars agreed with Postecoglou's condemnation of the club.

Tottenham forward Richarlison shared a video of Postecoglou's criticism to his Instagram reposts.

Former Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen appeared to back Postecoglou's comments.

Postecoglou led Tottenham to victory at the 2025 UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United.

The 60-year-old Australian was sacked by Spurs on June 6, 2025, exactly two years after his appointment. He was replaced days later by Frank.

Postecoglou was sacked just 39 days after being named Nottingham Forest manager in early September 2025. His brief reign at City Ground was the shortest stint of any permanent Premier League manager in history.
