Tony Romo, 46, was arrested in Milwaukee, Wisconsin last week.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback turned CBS announcer was pulled over on the highway and then arrested after failing some field sobriety tests. Romo refused to take a breathalyzer test.
TMZ Sports has since obtained video of his arrest.
"In the video, obtained by TMZ, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback tells the officer he had just left a golf tournament and was headed to see his grandparents when he was stopped in Wisconsin on July 23," they reported.
"Later in the footage, the officer returns to Romo's car and asks him to step out of his Jeep to perform field sobriety tests, but Romo repeatedly asks whether he can call his lawyer before finally exiting the vehicle. The officer tells him no and orders him to get out. Romo eventually complies, and the officer tells him he is being detained pending an OWI investigation."
Romo could be heard telling the arresting officer that he was having difficulty understanding all of her instructions with the field sobriety test. He was also heard admitting that he was having trouble with the tests, due to his history of back injuries.
Few players in recent NFL history have been beaten up as much as Romo was throughout his career.
The police officer also reportedly told Romo that he was not allowed to call his lawyer during his initial traffic stop.
NFL fans are not happy with the arresting officer.
Fans speak out against arresting police officer
"I am no expert, but I do not see impaired. He is definitely uncomfortable after he exits the truck, which looks more like pain/discomfort control. FYI: I have no idea who this guy is, or why he matters so much to everyone," one fan wrote.
"What a joke. Whoever this Minnie Mouse cop that arrested Tony Romo is, should be fired," one fan added.
"I'm an Eagles fan, so I’m no Tony Romo apologist. But the dude couldn't have been any nicer to the officer. Totally respectful. Surprised she wouldn't let him call his attorney and instead put the cuffs on him. He said he would comply with her request??" one fan added.
"Romo showed better judgment than this cop, on at least 5 different occasions during their 10 minute interaction," one fan added.
"I think Romo did really well, after seeing so many people handle themselves like clowns, this was a pretty respectable performance by Tony," one fan added.
What did you make of the officer's behavior?
