Former NFL star and CBS broadcaster Tony Romo’s career is up in the air at the moment.
Romo was arrested in Wisconsin in late July on suspicion of operating while under the influence. According to the California Post, the cops found an open bottle of booze in the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s vehicle.
Shortly after Romo’s arrest, CBS announced that he was being placed on leave. The No. 1 crew will now feature J.J. Watt as the color commentator.
Even though Romo hasn’t said anything publicly since his arrest, a spokesperson hinted at him returning to CBS Sports.
“Tony accepts full responsibility for his actions and has taken proactive steps to ensure that this isolated civil matter is properly resolved,” a spokesperson told TMZ. “We are working with local authorities to bring this matter to a close and we are communicating with CBS about next steps.”

CBS might not want Romo back.
The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand reported that CBS has been trying to “get out” of Romo’s contract, which has roughly $72 million remaining on it.
“My feeling is they’ve been wanting to get out of this contract, they know it’s not good,” Marchand said, via Awful Announcing. “And not only get out (of this contract), they want to get out of the Romo business, in my opinion. Because if you bring him back, he’s back. There’s no, he’s back, and then you’re going to let him go, in my opinion.”
For what it’s worth, CBS Sports president and CEO David Berson was asked about Romo’s situation earlier this month.
“I hope you can respect and appreciate this is a personal matter, and a legal one for Tony. So I can’t speak to that aspect. But I can say this is an evolving situation. Therefore, we’re still assessing,” Berson said. “There’s no timetable or final decision at this time. Since it continues to evolve, and we’re on the eve of the season, I felt it was very important that our team, the many, many people who work on the NFL on CBS, have certainty and direction so we can definitively plan.”
As of now, it’s way too early to determine if Romo will return to the booth.
