Michigan State men's basketball coach Tom Izzo is facing scrutiny for his sideline interview with CBS's Tracy Wolfson on Sunday.
The Spartans are taking on the Wolverines on Sunday. Earlier in the game, Michigan State star Jeremy Fears was hit with a technical foul. He, yet again, was caught kicking another player in the groin.
Fears, who has done it multiple times this year, was promptly hit with a T from the officials. However, his head coach, Izzo, was not happy.
Later in the game, Izzo spoke with Wolfson about the incident. He blamed it on Fears' reputation, rather than what actually happened.
"An interesting start to this game. It started with a technical on Fears. What did you say to him?" Wolfson asked.
Izzo, though, assigned blame to the refs.
"You know, it's all because of what's happened earlier (in the year). And now the microscope is on him. And I don't like that. I told him I don't even want him breathing wrong," Izzo said.
College hoops fans blame Izzo for no accountability
College basketball fans are blaming Izzo for not holding his player accountable for his actions.
"You have to be kidding me," one writer shared.
"Tom Izzo is allergic to accountability," one fan added.
"Tom Izzo wouldn’t know accountability if it kicked him," one shared.
"Its becoming a pattern...." one shared.
"I used to respect coach, but he’s lost me this year," one fan added.
"This is why he keeps doing this stuff. No accountability from his coach," one fan added.
"Well maybe you should hold him accountable for his bad behavior," another fan suggested.
Fears has been having a good year, averaging 15 points and 9 assists per game, but he can't keep getting himself in situations like this.
