Tom Brady seemed to be hypercritical of Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold on Sunday and fans aren’t really sure why.
The former No. 3 pick struggled quite a bit in Week 5’s loss to the division rival 49ers completing just 18-of-29 passes for 195 yards with a touchdown, two picks and five sacks.
But it was the contempt Brady seemed to show for Darnold after a late hit in the second quarter that really got viewers’ attention on FOX.

Tom Brady accused of ‘hating’ Sam Darnold after Sunday’s game
With San Francisco up 14-10 before half, Darnold scrambled for five yards up the sideline before a late hit from 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw sent him flying past Seattle’s bench.
The play led to a skirmish that eventually saw Greenlaw ejected for head-butting a helmetless Seahawks defender. Meanwhile, Brady tried his hardest to defend the hit by accusing Darnold of selling the call.
“I don’t think that’s an illegal hit at all,” Brady claimed. “I know they might call a penalty, but Dre Greenlaw’s on a full sprint to make sure Darnold’s not gaining anywhere close to the first down mark, which is exactly what Darnold’s doing. And then it’s a little nudge out of bounds and Darnold with the acting.”
It didn’t take long for fans to notice Brady’s strange demeanor:
“Tom Brady hates Sam Darnold … noted,” Warren Sharp said.
“Man, I’m having a tough time listening to Tom Brady talking about ‘how much the game as changed’ on a late hit call on Dre Greenlaw against Sam Darnold,” a user shared.
“Tom Brady is not impressed with Sam Darnold,” another commented.
“From listening to the broadcast, very clear that Tom Brady is still not a fan of Sam Darnold,” a fan posted. “The rumor that Brady said no for Darnold coming to the Raiders during the 2025 offseason checks out.”
“I’d happily take Buck and Aikman over Tom Brady,” another person replied. “He’s homering so bad for SF, gotta turn down the sound. Idiot actually thinks Darnold faked getting hit out of bounds.”
“Brady hates Darnold,” John Middlekauff wrote.
Brady also called Darnold out for throwing a “hospital ball” to Rashid Shaheed in the second quarter, and it makes you wonder where a lot of this seeming disdain comes from.
