Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes have formed quite the duo over the past decade, winning three Super Bowls and setting countless Kansas City Chiefs records.
This week, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady appeared on the "New Heights" podcast with Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce. Brady expressed a lot of love for Kelce's game and what he's done over the course of his career. In fact, Brady believes that if Kelce had played in his system in New England, his pass catching numbers might have been even better than they've been in Kansas City.
Brady thinks that Kelce would have averaged between 110 and 120 receptions per year playing with Brady in New England.
“If I played with you, you would’ve had 110-120 (receptions) a year," Brady told Kelce on the podcast.
Kelce has hit the 110 catches mark one time in his career. He caught 110 passes for 1,338 yards during the 2022 season.
Brady probably isn't wrong, though
Brady, at least in his later New England years, didn't stretch the field as much as Mahomes has in Kansas City.
The Patriots legend liked to throw a lot of short passes to guys like Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Wes Welker, etc.
Kelce is not much of a vertical threat, but he excels in the short to mid-range passing game, where Brady also thrived.
Brady isn't saying that Kelce would've been better in New England than he's been in Kansas City. But, he's arguing that his receptions total might have been even higher, and given what we've seen from both players, it's probably not a stretch to think that.
Of course, Kelce has done quite well for himself in Kansas City, winning three Super Bowls en route to a Hall of Fame nomination that will come.
