Tom Brady will be 50 years old at the start of the 2027 NFL season. He last played in the league in 2022.
But is a comeback possible?
According to his biographer, Lars Anderson, a comeback isn’t being ruled out – at least on the author’s end. Anderson, who wrote Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, believes that Brady desperately wanted to win eight Super Bowls.
“I think he wishes he got number eight,” Anderson told Bridget Condon on Front Office Sports Tonight. “I think he wishes circumstances could have been different and he could have kept playing.”

Anderson believes that Brady was “broken” at times during his final NFL season in 2022, due to his divorce from supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
“Never in his life had he ever looked so unlike Tom Brady,” Anderson said. “Then at that moment, this was a picture of a broken man. And that ultimately is the picture that I want [to stick with] readers.”
Anderson believes that Brady was devastated by how things turned out. He also wouldn’t be shocked if Brady attempts a comeback, though that’s just speculation.
“He was devastated that she wanted to end their life together, for sure,” Anderson said. “I try not to traffic in this stuff. And I did not talk to either Tom or Gisele about their marriage and … God, I just can’t tell you how uncomfortable this whole thing makes me, because I certainly wouldn’t want somebody flashing a spotlight on my behavior that caused me to get a divorce when my kids were little. I don’t think any of us who have been through it before would. But I do think that if Tom had his druthers, he would be playing right now, and I would not be shocked if he somehow tries to play next year.”
Brady’s return to NFL would have complications
Brady is currently under contract at Fox Sports, on a $300 million-plus deal. He’s also a minority owner in the Las Vegas Raiders.
The legendary NFL quarterback would have to divest his ownership in the Raiders to make a comeback.
Brady told CNBC last spring that he has “inquired” about a potential NFL comeback in the past, but added that he’s “very happily retired.”
Would anyone really be shocked if he did it, though?
