Is there a scenario in play where Arch Manning leaves Texas in 2027 for another notable program?

Prior to the start of the 2026 season, Todd McShay reminded fans that Manning isn’t a lock to go pro in 2027. He pointed out the Manning family’s history of finishing out their respective college careers.

“I don’t even know that the Mannings are looking at this as the swan song at Texas,” said McShay. “There’s a long history of Manning sticking around that extra year that people didn’t think they were going to stick around until they’re right and they feel like they’re ready. I won’t be surprised at all if he’s in the 2028 draft.”

While it’s possible Manning declares for the 2027 NFL Draft, the hype surrounding him has died down over the past few weeks. Last Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma certainly didn’t help his case, especially since he had two costly interceptions in the second half of action.

Even though McShay has been adamant that Manning should return to school for another year, he’s not so sure Texas is the right fit.

“Explore a transfer? — There’s still time to turn this season around,” McShay wrote on X. “I’m more bullish on his NFL future than the social media doom suggests, but another college season currently looks like his best path.”

As of this time, Manning hasn’t said anything about potentially transferring.

Will Arch stay in school?

Eli Manning was recently asked if Arch will stay at Texas for one more year. He didn’t exactly share any family secrets, but he pointed out the pros to staying in school.

“Every year it’s an opportunity to play more games, get more prepared for the NFL, to win an SEC championship, to be a captain of the team,” the former Giants quarterback said. “It’s not just about getting to the NFL and going the next step. It’s about enjoying your experience, enjoying your teammates and building something special with the guys that have been there together. I’m proud of Arch and how he’s handling this.”

Manning is completing 63% of his passes this season for 1,122 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. If he doesn’t show improvement this fall, he may have no choice but to put his NFL dreams on hold.
