Former Green Bay Packers star Clay Matthews is trending on social media this Friday for a pretty absurd reason.
Matthews, a former first-round pick from USC, played in the NFL from 2009-2019. The six-time Pro Bowler racked up 519 tackles, 200 QB hits, 91.5 sacks and 17 forced fumbles during his career.
On Friday afternoon, TMZ shared photos of Matthews online along with the caption: “Clay Matthews was spotted out grabbing groceries looking VERY different after apparently getting some work done. 👀 #ad.”

NFL fans were understandably alarmed by Matthews’ unusual appearance – albeit these photos aren’t real.
“Who let Clay Matthews go to Turkey,” one fan replied.
“Clayvicular Matthews,” a second fan commented.
“Is this real,” another fan asked.
Since TMZ added “#ad” to its post, there’s a very good chance this is some type of publicity stunt for Week 1 of the NFL season. Of course, it doesn’t help that Matthews is clearly AI-generated in this photo.

Matthews has been hired by Netflix to provide pregame, halftime, and postgame analysis for next Thursday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
With that being said, Matthews will have a chance to address this social media controversy and why these photos leaked online.
In the meantime, TMZ will be racking up the clicks on X.
