Amid declining fan support and reported threats against his family over his recent poor play, Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward is admitting he’s got a problem.
Ward has been heavily criticized for his game-losing interception against the New York Giants in Week 3, which came on the heels of two lackluster performances against the Jets and Eagles to start the season.
During his press conference on Wednesday, Ward said that he hasn’t been playing his best in “critical situations.” He said that he has to get better and pledged to “attack” those kinds of situation in practice ahead of their Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
“I just don’t think I played my best in critical situations,” Ward said, via TennesseeTitans.com. “You look at over the course of the game, it was good to win. But when I needed to play my best, I didn’t. And that’s something I have to get better at. It’s something I have to attack this week going into the next game. But it is something you get to learn from… and you make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future.”
Can he make good on the pledge?
Obviously it’s one thing to make a promise and entirely another to actually do it, as Titans fans are undoubtedly going to keep reminding Ward over the next few days and weeks.
The schedule the Titans are facing right now would be rough enough even for a quarterback playing great.
In October alone, the Titans have games against the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns, all four of whom are likely to give the Titans fits. The Ravens, Colts and Browns all got big wins on Sunday and the Texans seem destined to break their slump soon.

Ward has yet to throw for 200 yards in a game this season and went his first 87 passing attempts without throwing an interception (up until the last play against the Giants this past week). He’s currently averaging just 168 passing yards per game and hasn’t shown much growth since his 2025 rookie season.
It’s obvious that Ward needs to improve in a big way in order to find a modicum of success. The first step in accomplishing that is recognizing it, even if it the easiest step.
