Jordan Elliott’s release from the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday came with a one-line explanation about an “incident” at the team facility. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, that incident involved Elliott going to his car for his gun after a practice-field argument with right tackle JC Latham, three days before the Titans picked up their first win of the season in Indianapolis.
Citing multiple league sources, Wilson reported that Elliott and Latham tangled during a play at practice Thursday, Oct. 15. Elliott was told to leave the field, took his pads off on the sideline and walked out of the building to his car in the players’ parking area, with security cameras capturing the full sequence. Veteran defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers talked him down. A to Z Sports first reported that a firearm was involved.

“Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster,” the team said in a brief statement Tuesday, adding it would have no further comment. Before practice last Friday, coach Robert Saleh said Elliott was “dealing with personal stuff,” per ESPN. Elliott didn’t travel for the 26-20 win over the Colts.
“Jordan has been having a lot of problems away from the building and obviously he brought it to work with him,” an NFL source told Wilson. “We’re just glad that no one got hurt and it’s over.”
Metro Nashville police told A to Z Sports that no report was filed. It’s also unclear whether the league was told, as Pro Football Talk noted. Saleh is scheduled to speak to reporters Wednesday morning.
Elliott signed a two-year deal worth $8 million this offseason after playing for Saleh in San Francisco. He had 11 tackles and one start in five games, and he graded out at 44.7 through the first four, according to PFF. Without him in Indianapolis, Solomon Thomas played 27 snaps and practice squad call-up Timmy Horne played 25, while Jeffery Simmons kept surging with two sacks and seven pressures.
Latham and Franklin-Myers both played Sunday. Latham was on the field for all 46 snaps with an 80.6 pass-blocking grade, and Franklin-Myers had five pressures, according to PFF. For a team that has leaned on winning ugly under Robert Saleh, the interior rotation is now one body lighter with the Titans already weighing whether to sell before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
