The Tennessee Titanswrapped up another practice on Thursday, putting another successful showing behind them. The day was eventful. Among all of the headlines from the event, these were my three biggest observations.
Observation 1: Carnell Tate Looks Like a Star

The biggest observation that I had from Thursday's practice is that Carnell Tate was a star. Tate is looking crisp when it comes to his route running and is by far one of the better wide receivers on the roster when it comes to reaching his high point. It was known that the Titans brought in the receiver thanks to his reliable hands, but his ability to make contested catches and put himself in the best position to succeed flew a bit under the radar.
Tate was rated a 90.3 by PFF in his final season in college with the Ohio State Buckeyes. If Tate plays to his value in college, he will be one of the better receivers in the NFL.
Observation 2: Alontae Taylor Has His Worst Day in a Titans' Practice Uniform

Alontae Taylor had a rough day in coverage. He gave up multiple touchdowns on the day, including a play in which Elic Ayomanor went up over him for a touchdown. This was the start of what would turn into his worst day yet, as he would then give up a touchdown against Tate on the day as well. Taylor giving up touchdowns isn't something the Titans should get used to seeing, as he is one of the most reliable cornerbacks in the league, especially in man coverage.
Observation 3: Joey Slye Had a Rough Day

The Titans' worst performance of the day came from Joey Slye, who is the kicker for the franchise. He had an uncharacteristic day for the Titans, as he finished the day with three missed field goals. This isn't something that is normal for Slye, as last season he finished as an 80% field goal kicker. The Titans need to rely on Slye a ton this year, as some games the Titans will likely struggle on the opponent's side of the field.
