The 2025 Pittsburgh Steelerswide receiver corps can be summarized by three numbers: 31, 29, and 30. Brooke Pryor of ESPN highlighted those numbers while discussing the Steelers' receiving corps last season. Their production simply wasn't enough to provide a legitimate arsenal outside of DK Metcalf. If not for the late-season waiver claim of Adam Thielen, the Steelers might not have had any chance of making a late playoff push.
Pryor shared the telling statistics:
“The Steelers' wide receivers were among the league's least productive units in 2025, combining for 136 receptions (ranking 31st), 1,716 receiving yards (29th) and 76 first downs (30th).”
It quickly became clear that the Steelers lacked viable options behind Metcalf. That issue became even more apparent when Metcalf was suspended for the final two regular-season games. Pittsburgh went 1-1 during that stretch and ultimately squeaked its way to a division title, though Calvin Austin III and Thielen deserve credit for their Week 18 performances. Even so, the Steelers entered the offseason needing more stability at wide receiver. Fortunately for them, there was one person capable of making that happen.
Steelers needed a proven veteran receiver, and they got one

Enter general manager Omar Khan. Khan spent the past two years trying to solidify the wide receiver position. He pursued a trade for Brandon Aiyuk, but the deal ultimately fell through. The Steelers also missed out on several other trade opportunities. This offseason, however, Khan landed a proven veteran by acquiring Michael Pittman Jr. in a bargain trade. He then doubled down by drafting two wide receivers.
Suddenly, the Steelers' receiver room has some legitimate depth. Just ask their prized trade acquisition:
"DK [Metcalf] has been great," Pittman told ESPN. "I think me and him are going to do well and like obviously if teams are going to double-team him, then that's going to leave me free. If they're going to double-team me, it's going to leave him free. So it's going to be great. And then we got Germ [Germie Bernard] and Rome [Roman Wilson], too. We're not shorthanded on pass catchers."
Pittman may not have experienced the shortcomings of the 2025 receiver room firsthand, but he already likes what he sees. The Steelers not only added talent through the draft and trade market, but Roman Wilson also gets a fresh start. He could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the McCarthy hire.

Khan has made several moves over the past two seasons to improve the Steelers' receiving corps, though the results have largely fallen short. This latest group, however, has the potential to provide the stability the Steelers have sought for years.
Now, they simply need to produce.
Young receivers like Germie Bernard and Wilson must develop into reliable WR3 options with the potential for even larger roles. If Kaden Wetjen builds on the promise he showed at the Shrine Bowl, he could emerge as a viable WR4.
As for Metcalf and Pittman, they will lead the group. Metcalf was on pace for nearly 1,000 receiving yards last season before his untimely suspension. Pittman spent the past several years serving as the Indianapolis Colts' de facto WR1, consistently delivering solid production. Now, he can thrive in a complementary role alongside Metcalf. As Pittman told ESPN, when defenses focus on Metcalf, it creates opportunities for him and the rest of the receiving corps.
Khan may have finally solved the Steelers' long-standing issues at wide receiver. Now, the group simply has to prove it on the field.
