The Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up for their first preseason game against the New Orleans Saints. The starters are not expected to make an appearance, opening the door for all the players on the back end of the 90-man roster to show this coaching staff how they can handle the speed of the NFL game. However, three Jaguars players need a strong performance vs. the Saints more than the rest of the roster.
Devon Marshall, CB
The former North Carolina State cornerback has shown some flashes of why he deserves to be on the 53-man roster, but nothing to the likes of 2025 UDFA cornerback Jabbar Muhammad. Right now, Muhammad has taken the lead over Marshall, but a strong showing against the Saints – potentially against known commodities in league circles, such as receivers Trey Palmer and Ronnie Bell or quarterback Zach Wilson – will give Marshall a solid chance at leapfrogging Muhammad on the depth chart.
Jalen McLeod, LB
The only thing stopping Jalen McLeod seems to be injuries. With him missing his entire rookie season due to an ankle injury and then mysteriously missing time during practice this week, McLeod needs a solid showing against the Saints to solidify the coaching staff's belief in his potential impact on the team.
Quintin Morris, TE
With the number of tight ends the Jaguars have brought on in the past year, there looks to be a bit of a spotlight on the position from this coaching staff. It doesn't seem that Morris has lived up to the spotlight so far. He's still seen as TE4 on the unofficial depth chart; however, it seems that there may only be room for three tight ends, especially with the offensive line being as brittle as it has been, and Morris may be looking at the practice squad if he doesn't have a strong showing vs. New Orleans.
