Former Colorado Buffaloes and NFL defensive back Shilo Sanders testified for the first time at his bankruptcy trial this week. Things got heated.
Sanders, who played for his dad, Deion Sanders, was issued an $11.89 million judgment against him back in 2022, stemming from an alleged incident with a security guard at his high school. Sanders was accused of injuring the security guard during an incident involving a cellphone at a school. The security guard was attempting to confiscate his phone.
On Wednesday, Sanders testified, claiming that it was actually the security guard who attacked him, not the other way around. Sanders alleged that the security guard, John Darjean, testified that he choked him, caused him to “black out” and started tearing the skin off his arm during the skirmish involving the phone.

The former Buffaloes safety alleged that the security guard caused him excruciating pain.” Sanders added that he was “choke-slammed” into a corner by Darjean, which caused him to “hit my head as hard as possibly could happen.”
“I literally have proof of both of his hands tearing my skin off,” Sanders testified.
Things are getting heated at the trial
Sanders was only 15 years old at the time of the incident. He failed to show up to the 2022 civil trial. This is the first time that he is speaking about the incident publicly.
However, Sanders’ claims contradict what previous witnesses have said. The lawyer for the security guard was not happy with Sanders’ comments on Wednesday.
The judge had to intervene.
“Just stop,” Judge Romero told them. “Just ask questions. Just answer his questions. Let’s not get into an argument between the two of you. It’s the end of the day. Tempers are getting a little high.”
Witnesses have previously said that Sanders kicked and tossed chairs in an agitated state at school.
“I was just a young kid that just got attacked by a grown man and just got scared for my life for a second, because I was getting choked,’ Sanders said.
