Week 5 of the 2026 NFL regular season is in the books, as it wrapped up with a Buffalo win over Los Angeles on Monday Night Football, and it’s time to turn the page to Week 6.
But looking all the way ahead to Week 8, it sounds like the NFL is openly considering some schedule changes.
The NFL could bump the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Commanders game out of the “Sunday Night Football” slot in Week 8. That game is scheduled to be played at 8:20 p.m. E.T. on NBC.
Instead, the NFL could bump a 1 p.m. or 4 p.m. E.T. game into that timeslot, as it could be a better contest.

Rob Tornoe of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the NFL is considering bumping the Eagles vs. Commanders game out of the 8:20 p.m. E.T. slot, due to poor starts from both franchises.
The Eagles are 2-3 on the season, following a disappointing loss on Sunday morning to the Jaguars in London, while the Commanders are 1-3-1, following a stunning tie against the Giants in Week 5.
There are some huge Week 8 games
While it’s unclear if the NFL will follow through with the bumping of the Eagles vs. Commanders game from “Sunday Night Football,” there are some enticing Week 8 games that could benefit from a standalone, primetime slot:
- Broncos vs. Chiefs, currently scheduled for 4:25 p.m. E.T. on CBS
- Bills vs. Ravens, currently scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T. on CBS
- Lions vs. Vikings, currently scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T. on FOX
The NFL’s flex scheduling rules for “Sunday Night Football” start in Week 5.
