With the NFL's Annual League Meeting set for March 29-April 1, it's only a matter of time before the rulebook undergoes a few tweaks.
On Tuesday, the NFL Competition Committee announced that five rule proposals will be discussed at next week's Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. Three of the rule proposals have to do with the league's dynamic kickoff rules.
Here are the rule proposals that will be discussed at next week’s meeting:
- Allow the kicking team to declare an onside kick at any time during a game.
- Remove any incentive for a team to intentionally kick the ball out of bounds when the kickoff takes place from the 50-yard line.
- Modify the alignment requirements for the receiving team in the setup zone.
- League personnel can consult with officials when considering disqualifications for flagrant football and non-football acts.
- Allow the NFL Officiating Department to correct clear misses by on-field referees that impact the game.
As you'd imagine, NFL fans had a lot to say about these proposed changes.
"Having to declare onside kicks is so stupid," one fan said.
"Still waiting for the 4th and 20 instead of the onside kick in football should be proposed/added," a second person wrote on social media.
"We got to let onside kicks happen at any point of the game as a surprise. And we need to eliminate regular season ties and make each kicker do a shoot out after overtime until one misses," another fan suggested.

What else will be discussed at this meeting?
The Cleveland Browns are proposing that NFL teams should be allowed to trade up to five seasons worth of draft picks.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, meanwhile, are demanding stricter guidelines for the NFL's legal tampering window.
"By Pittsburgh; to make permanent the change implemented during the 2025 season that permits clubs to have one video or phone call with no more than five prospective
Unrestricted Free Agent during the Two-Day Negotiation Period, and to permit clubs to make travel arrangements with such players upon agreeing to terms," the Steelers' proposal states.
It'll be interesting to see how many proposals are approved next week.
