The NFC East division looks rough this year and after the way the four teams performed in Week 5, it wouldn’t be much of a shock if the division title winner finished with a losing record.
On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys were stunned at home by the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers and rookie QB Jalon Daniels. Then, in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, the Philadelphia Eagles gave up a long kickoff return after taking a one-point lead with 10 seconds to play, allowing the Jaguars to kick a game-winning field goal and win 19-17.
But perhaps the most embarrassing display of the division came when the New York Giants took on the Washington Commanders. After the Giants tied the game to force overtime, neither team could score in the 10-minute period. The Commanders had a chance to get a game-winning field goal in the final 20 seconds, but Commanders QB Jayden Daniels ran the ball with no timeouts and time expired, leading to a 27-27 tie.
It was Mina Kimes that pointed out the rather rare feat that the division achieved today: None of its teams won a game despite there being a game where two of them played each other.
“The NFC East winning 0 games on a week in which two teams played each other feels like a pretty good encapsulation of the division at the moment,” Kimes pointed out.
Fans had plenty of jokes at the division’s expense, calling it the “NFC Least” on social media:
“This is why they call it NFC Least,” one user on X wrote.
“NFC least,” another wrote.
“NFC Least! We’re back!” wrote a third.
“I will be stunned if the winner of the division has more than nine wins.”
“It’s not just that neither won, but how neither managed to win. Absolute comedy of errors.”

As rough as that may be for the division overall, Giants fans are pretty pleased with how the day ended. They got a tie in a game they nearly lost and both of their other division rivals lost. They’re now 3-1-1 on the season and 1.5 games in front for the lead after the quarter mark of the season.
“Giants only have one loss in 5 games. With Dart hurt. Nobody expected that,” one Giants fan declared.
“Giants still in first now by a game and a half! And no losses still in the division. I’ll take it!” another said.
At least some fans are having a good time.
