As Pat McAfee's presence has grown through the years, he's gotten bigger and bigger roles for some of the nation's biggest events. But the Masters Tournament appears to be the one nut he can't crack.
On today's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, McAfee revealed that for three years he has been trying to convince the powers that be to let him cover the Masters Tournament Par 3 Contest and the tournament in general. But he has been repeatedly denied. He praised Jason Kelce for getting his chance to participate and lamented that he couldn't get in there too.
“We have attempted to be a part of the Wednesday coverage of the Masters at the Par 3 thing for three consecutive years now,” Pat McAfee said. “And for the people that are mad about Jason Kelce being a part of the Masters, I’ve got a good piece of news for you: they’ve told us to go to hell.
“So I think you should be happy about that, that they do try to preserve it as a whole. They have a certain thing that they are looking for. So I think Jason Kelce, who’s a dog, who’s funny, who’s relatable, and is a good athlete, and he’s probably friends with a lot of these guys that are going to be golfing there, I think he will provide a bonus for that Par 3 coverage. But to the people that are upset, saying that the Masters are the only thing you got left, know that they’ve turned us down very loudly numerous times, which I think should be good news for the state of their golf in the way they view it all.”
The Kelce Controversy
In a surprise move, ESPN announced that Kelce would be joining their coverage of the Masters. It was obviously a head-scratcher for most golf fans given Kelce has no real experience with golf other than his brother having a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2.
Some fans feel that Kelce is perfect for something like the Par 3 contest while others are just plain exhausted that Kelce keeps getting more media roles.
"Sorry but you are crazy. Enough of Kelce. He doesn’t need to be there," one user replied.
"I'm not saying he won't do a good job, but I'd rather him be doing projects revolving around the Offensive Line prospects in the upcoming draft," wrote another.

"Pat literally no one wants more Kelce. Please. Make it stawpp," a third wrote.
If there's room enough for Kelce at Augusta, there probably should be for McAfee.
