These notable tight end injury situations warrant fantasy football attention as 2026 drafts heat up. Some players should be ready for Week 1, while others may need managed training camp workloads or even longer recovery timelines. These updates can affect draft cost, early-season usage, and the depth of a position that already comes with limited dependable starters.

Tight End Injury Updates

George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers

Kittle took his biggest step yet toward playing in Week 1 when San Francisco activated him from Active/PUP on Aug. 23. He has since returned to limited practice work, less than eight months after tearing his Achilles, eliminating the possibility that he will automatically miss the first four games on Reserve/PUP. The 49ers still have not committed to Kittle playing in the opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia, but his activation substantially improves his outlook. Fantasy managers still need to account for the risks associated with an accelerated Achilles recovery, though his chances of providing early-season value have improved considerably.

Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers

Kraft completed his most significant test yet when he fully participated in Green Bay’s physical joint practice with Arizona on Aug. 26. He absorbed multiple hits, converted a fourth down against the Cardinals’ starting defense, and said he no longer considers himself subject to a rep count. The Packers likely will keep him out of the preseason finale on Aug. 28, but Kraft expects to enter the Sept. 13 opener without workload restrictions. Green Bay’s recent addition of Jonnu Smith says more about Luke Musgrave’s injury outlook than it does a lack of confidence in where Kraft’s knee is at entering Week 1.

Tyler Warren, Indianapolis Colts

Warren remained sidelined on Aug. 26 as Indianapolis continued exercising caution with his groin injury. The Colts have not announced a return to practice, though head coach Shane Steichen continues planning around Warren’s availability for Week 1. His absence has lasted slightly longer than the initial one-week estimate, making his anticipated return next week worth keeping an eye on. Warren still does not warrant a substantial fantasy downgrade unless he remains out when Indianapolis begins preparing for Baltimore.

Kenyon Sadiq, New York Jets

The rookie remains limited to working on the side following the setback in Sadiq’s recovery from May hernia surgery, although head coach Aaron Glenn said on Aug. 24 that the Jets continue targeting Week 1 for his return. More importantly for fantasy purposes, offensive coordinator Frank Reich acknowledged on Aug. 25 that New York plans to work Sadiq in slowly once the rookie returns. Mason Taylor has taken advantage of Sadiq’s absence and established himself atop the tight end depth chart, making a substantial Week 1 role unlikely for Sadiq even if he receives medical clearance. His lengthy absence now creates a legitimate early-season playing-time concern.

Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills

Dan Fetes of Buffalo Plus reported on Aug. 27 that Kincaid has played through a broken right pinky for most of training camp. The injury apparently occurred near the beginning of camp, but Kincaid has not missed practice time or experienced noticeable problems catching passes. His uninterrupted participation keeps the injury from affecting his Week 1 outlook or fantasy draft cost.
