The New York Jets don't have a whole lot of talent on their roster heading into 2026, but they're keen to make sure that the one bright spot they did have last season is back for at least another year.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Jets are placing the franchise tag on star running back Breece Hall. Per the report, the team is still working hard on reaching a long-term deal with the 1,000-yard back and hope that the franchise tag is just a placeholder.
"Tagged: As the Jets and RB Breece Hall continue to try to hammer out a lucrative long-term deal, New York is placing the $14.293 million franchise tag on its standout running back, per sources. The tag is designed as a placeholder until the two sides can reach agreement," Schefter wrote.
A hot commodity
While Jets fans are ready to breath a sign of relief, fans of other teams are hoping that they can still acquire him somehow:
"Someone please free Breece Hall… my man doesn’t deserve to be trapped in this toxic environment," one user on X begged.
"Not worth 14 mill but if the jets need to keep anybody from the team around Breece Hall is the guy. Breece wants to be a chief so bad. Lmaooo," wrote another.
"Jets need to stop holding him hostage and wasting his career," a third wrote.

Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards in 2025 and was the only player on the entire team to finish the year with over 500 yards from scrimmage or score five touchdowns. But in other years, he's been among the best running backs in the league, even if he doesn't have the accolades to show for it.
While he's not likely to win much in New York, other teams clearly want him. The only questions that remain are what they'll give to get him and what the Jets' asking price might be.
