The Dallas Cowboys went to London for their game against the Baltimore Ravens a little shorthanded on defense. Five defensive players had to stay home due to injuries. Now the team is working out some free agents in an effort to augment their depth.
According to ESPN Cowboys insider Todd Archer, the Cowboys brought in five defensive players on Tuesday for workouts. Among them is former Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas and former Cincinnati Bengals starting LB Germaine Pratt.
“The Cowboys had former Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas among five players in for workouts Tuesday. Also worked out LB Germaine Pratt, CB Alex Austin, DB Shemar Bartholomew and DB Tyrek Funderburk,” Archer wrote. “Lots of issues with health in the secondary after Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.”
Concerns for the defense?
Right now the Cowboys defense is looking distressingly similar to last year’s. They’ve given up at least 20 points in every game and currently rank 30th in yards allowed. They’re among the worst teams in the league against the run.
Cowboys fans were understandably worried that the team is already getting into a bad position defensively:
“Bout to look like last years defense,” one fan remarked.
“Might as well workout Deion, Terrace Newman, and all the OGs,” another mocked.
“They reached out to me for a workout too Todd,” a third joked.

Like last year, the Cowboys have an offense that can keep them in the game against any opponent. It’s worth noting that both of their losses came by just one score and a combined 11 points.
But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. If the Cowboys can’t get a defense in place capable of getting the big stops, all the offense in the world won’t be enough to get them into the playoffs, let alone ending their NFC Championship drought.
