The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t closed the door on Tyreek Hill, but nobody is rushing through it either. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said after Tuesday’s civil trial verdict that nothing is close yet, and one insider believes the Chiefs’ next move on the trade market could answer the question for them.
Jonathan Jones of The Athletic reported Saturday that he doesn’t get the sense Kansas City is in a hurry to sign Hill. If the Chiefs trade for a speedy receiver before the Nov. 10 deadline, Jones wrote, he would take that as a negative development for a reunion.
Three hurdles for Tyreek Hill
A Miami jury found Hill liable on two of 10 counts and awarded his estranged wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro Hill, $500,000 in compensatory damages, according to The Associated Press. He was found not liable on the other eight counts. An NFL spokesperson said the matter remains “under review of the personal conduct policy,” ESPN reported.
Jones listed the knee, the money and possible discipline as the obstacles. Hill, 32, is still recovering from the dislocated knee and torn ligaments he suffered with Miami in September 2025, and the Dolphins released him in February. Rosenhaus has said he could be ready in November, and nobody expects Hill to take a veteran minimum deal.
The Chiefs’ receiver room needs help
Kansas City’s depth has been tested. Tyquan Thornton is out 12 to 16 weeks with a dislocated left ankle, and Rashee Rice appears unlikely to play Sunday with a hamstring injury. The Chiefs brought back Justin Watson as a stopgap.
Jones expects Kansas City to lean on a young receiver such as Jalen Royals in the short term. The second-year receiver has three catches for 17 yards and a touchdown in four games, which is why the Chiefs need to add more before the deadline, with or without Hill.
Andy Reid kept it simple on Rice. “We’ll just have to see how it goes,” Reid said, per The Associated Press.
The 4-0 Chiefs come off their bye against the winless Chargers at Arrowhead on Sunday. Kickoff is 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
