If college football fans can agree on one thing that every fan base does well, it's this: hate.
College football fans love to hate. They love to hate their rivals, their announcers, their TV networks, their uniforms, their crowds and more. The sport is based on passion, and while love is on one side of the sport, hate is on the other.
But which are the country's most "hated" programs in 2026?
College football expert Josh Pate asked the question this weekend. He's getting a lot of answers, though five programs stand out right now.
College football fans took to social media to agree on the five most "hated" programs in America in 2026.
Fans agree on country's 5 most 'hated' teams
The five most "hated" teams, according to On3 and ESPN's college football expert, are the following ones:
- Ohio State
- Notre Dame
- Michigan
- Alabama
- LSU
Ohio State is the most common answer.
"The Hilton Head invading Buckeyes of Ohio State," one fan joked.
Notre Dame was a popular one, too.
"Notre Dame. I was almost at a place that I could tolerate them, then Bam! They remind the world one of a million reasons to despise them, as they always do. Love the campus, the history, and the idea, but the princesses with golden tiaras of the cfb will always be the most hated," one fan added.
Michigan, with its cheating scandal and Sherrone Moore situation, is also topping the list.
"Michigan and its not close," one fan added.
Alabama, of course, has probably been among the country's most hated teams for two decades, thanks to Nick Saban and all of the winning.
"Always will be Alabama. Haters hate winners," one fan admitted.
LSU takes the final spot, in somewhat surprising fashion.
"Going into the 2026 season, I’ll say LSU for obvious reasons," one fan wrote.
"I think the only 2 correct answers could be Notre Dame or LSU," one fan added.
What would your pick be right now?
